Description
Tellurium Q Black II Digital Waveform II™ XLR Cable
The Tellurium Q Black II Digital XLR Cable is a high-performance balanced digital interconnect developed specifically for digital audio transmission between compatible AES/EBU components.
Part of Tellurium Q’s acclaimed Black Family, the Black II Digital Waveform II™ XLR is designed to preserve timing, coherence and low-level information while reducing the hardness and artificial edge that can sometimes be associated with digital playback.
The standard cable length is 1 metre, making it ideal for connecting CD transports, digital transports, streamers, DDCs and professional or high-end DACs equipped with balanced XLR digital interfaces.

Designed Specifically for Digital Transmission
The Tellurium Q Black II Digital XLR is not simply an analogue XLR interconnect repurposed for digital use.
Tellurium Q developed its Digital Waveform series specifically around the requirements of digital signal transmission.
The objective is to preserve the integrity of the digital waveform as it travels between source and DAC, helping maintain precise timing and a stable musical presentation.
Black Family Sound Philosophy
Tellurium Q divides its cable range into different performance families rather than simply increasing conductor size or price.
The Black Family is positioned around a balance of resolution, smoothness and natural musical coherence.
According to Tellurium Q, the Black Family is designed to reveal fine detail while reducing apparent harshness and presenting music as a coherent, organic whole.
Waveform II™ Digital Architecture
Digital audio transmission is highly dependent on maintaining signal integrity between source and receiving device.
The Black II Digital Waveform II™ XLR was developed specifically for this role rather than being treated as a conventional interconnect with XLR connectors attached.
The cable is intended to minimise unwanted interference with the digital waveform and preserve the timing relationships that contribute to natural and stable digital playback.

For AES/EBU Digital Connections
The Black II Digital XLR is intended for balanced digital connections commonly used by high-end and professional digital audio components.
Typical applications include:
- CD transport to DAC
- Network streamer to DAC
- Digital transport to DAC
- DDC to DAC
- Digital source to digital processor
- AES/EBU-equipped music server to DAC
It should not be confused with the standard Tellurium Q Black II analogue XLR interconnect, which is designed for analogue line-level audio signals.

Balanced XLR Connection
The cable uses professional-style XLR connectors at both ends for compatible balanced digital interfaces.
A secure connection is particularly important with digital audio systems, where a reliable electrical interface between components helps maintain stable transmission.
The Black II Digital XLR provides a purpose-built connection for systems where AES/EBU digital transmission is available.
Why Can a Digital Cable Affect Sound?
Digital audio may consist of ones and zeros, but the electrical signal carrying that information remains an analogue waveform travelling through a physical cable.
Signal integrity, timing behaviour, impedance consistency, shielding and interaction with connected equipment can therefore influence how accurately the receiving component reconstructs the digital data stream.
Tellurium Q focuses heavily on these timing relationships when developing its digital cable range.
Greater Clarity without Added Brightness
One of the defining qualities associated with the Tellurium Q Black Family is the combination of detail retrieval and smoothness.
Rather than creating an artificially brighter presentation to give the impression of greater detail, the Black II family is designed to improve clarity while maintaining natural tonal balance.
This makes the Black II Digital XLR especially interesting for systems where the listener wants more separation and definition without introducing additional hardness into digital playback.
Natural Timing and Musical Coherence
Tellurium Q places unusual emphasis on phase relationships and timing behaviour throughout its cable designs.
Rather than concentrating only on conventional electrical measurements, the company develops its cables around the way timing errors can influence the perceived coherence of music.
The Black II Digital XLR is designed to preserve transient information while allowing individual instruments to remain clearly positioned within the soundstage.

Black II Digital XLR vs Black II Analogue XLR
Although the two cables look similar, they are designed for completely different applications.
The
Tellurium Q Black II XLR
is an analogue balanced interconnect intended for line-level connections between components such as DACs, preamplifiers and power amplifiers.
The Black II Digital Waveform II™ XLR is specifically designed for digital audio transmission between compatible digital source components.
For this reason, the two should not be treated as interchangeable products simply because both use XLR connectors.
Black II Digital XLR vs Blue Digital XLR
The Black II sits above Tellurium Q’s Blue digital range.
The Blue Family is designed around a warmer and more forgiving presentation, while the Black Family moves toward greater resolution, speed and image definition without sacrificing smoothness.
For a resolving digital system, the Black II provides the natural upgrade path when greater transparency and control are required.
Black II Digital XLR vs Ultra Black II
The Ultra Black II occupies a higher position within Tellurium Q’s Black Family.
It is intended for systems capable of revealing even greater levels of low-level detail, dimensionality and dynamic information.
The Black II remains an excellent performance-to-price choice for systems where musical coherence and refinement are the priority without moving into significantly higher cable cost.
Who Is the Tellurium Q Black II Digital XLR For?
The Tellurium Q Black II Digital XLR is ideal for listeners using high-quality digital transports, streamers or music servers with AES/EBU-compatible DACs.
It is particularly suitable for systems that already offer good resolution but would benefit from greater image stability, timing precision and natural tonal flow.
It also makes sense for listeners who prefer a smooth and organic presentation rather than an exaggerated or overly analytical digital sound.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Tellurium Q Black II Digital XLR an analogue interconnect?
No. This version is specifically designed for digital XLR / AES/EBU signal transmission.
Can I use it between a DAC and amplifier?
Only if that connection is digital. For an analogue balanced connection between a DAC and amplifier, use the standard Tellurium Q Black II analogue XLR interconnect instead.
What is the standard length?
The standard cable length is 1 metre.
Which Tellurium Q family does it belong to?
It belongs to the Black Family, which Tellurium Q describes as combining fine detail, resolution and smoothness with natural musical coherence.
Is Black II above Blue in the Tellurium Q range?
Yes. Within Tellurium Q’s performance hierarchy, Black II sits above the Blue Family and below the higher Ultra Black and Black Diamond models.
