SV-Audio GRO – A Bigger Musical Picture from a Compact Floorstander

A good floorstanding loudspeaker should justify the space it occupies. GRO approaches that challenge with a relatively compact cabinet and a two-way driver arrangement designed to deliver convincing musical scale without imposing unnecessarily on the listening room.

Developed and manufactured in Denmark by Storgaard & Vestskov, GRO pairs a 29 mm silk-dome ring radiator with two 5-inch mid-woofers. Its appeal lies not in a complicated specification sheet, but in the way its architecture addresses dynamics, low-frequency weight and coherent reproduction in an elegant format.

The Meaning of GRO

GRO is named with a nod to Gróa, a seeress from Norse mythology. The short name also connects with the Scandinavian verb meaning to grow, an apt reference to the scale this relatively compact loudspeaker is intended to convey.

Instead of treating the name as a marketing flourish, it provides a useful way of understanding GRO’s place in the range: a floorstanding model with ambitions that extend beyond its external dimensions.

Why Two Mid-Woofers Matter

GRO uses two 5-inch mid-woofers with woven, self-reinforced polypropylene cones. The manufacturer selects this material for its structural stability and internal damping. Together, the drivers provide a greater combined radiating area than a single driver of the same size while keeping the front of the enclosure relatively narrow.

This is relevant when music grows more demanding. The woofers must preserve bass lines, rhythmic patterns and the body of instruments while the tweeter maintains the detail above them. Their success depends not simply on driver count, but on how they are matched and controlled as one system.

A Tweeter Designed for Integration

A 29 mm silk-dome ring radiator tweeter, driven by a neodymium motor system, reproduces high-frequency information. In a two-way system, its relationship with the mid-woofers is particularly important because their operating ranges must meet without an obvious change in character.

The stated engineering priority is a well-integrated presentation, from the tone of a voice to the smaller high-frequency cues that describe a recording venue. A specification cannot guarantee a listening preference, but the driver arrangement explains the design intent.

Crossover Development and the Signal Path

SV-Audio develops GRO’s crossover through measurement and listening, paying attention to driver integration and time and phase behaviour. The network employs low-DC-resistance air-core coils, aluminium foil capacitors and ultra-low-inductance resistors.

Internally, silver-plated oxygen-free copper conductors complete the connection from the terminals to the acoustic components. These are deliberate engineering choices, rather than a substitute for evaluating the completed loudspeaker in a real room.

Room Placement and Amplifier Choice

GRO has a nominal impedance of 4 ohms and a specified sensitivity of 88 dB ±2 dB. SV-Audio recommends amplifier power from 25 to 250 watts. More important than choosing an amplifier by wattage alone is ensuring that it can drive a 4-ohm load reliably at the intended listening level.

The manufacturer recommends rooms of up to 60 m² and at least 60 cm clearance from the wall behind the loudspeaker. These are starting points: bass balance and stereo focus will still depend on the actual room, speaker spacing and listening distance.

Finishes and Individuality

The standard Satin Gloss version is offered with Pure Black cabinets and Bentley Copper or Matte Black fronts. Standard High Gloss choices include Black Pearl with Bentley Copper or Matte Black, Crème White with Anthracite Gray, Reference Pearl Gray with Matte Black, and Deep Pearl Blue with Matte Black.

Two- and three-layer automotive custom paint colours can be requested. Alternative aluminium finishes may incur additional costs; Chameleon Audio can confirm the exact combination before an order is placed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is GRO a three-way loudspeaker?

No. GRO is a two-way floorstander with one tweeter and two 5-inch mid-woofers.

What amplifier does GRO need?

SV-Audio recommends 25–250 watts, but stable operation with a nominal 4-ohm load is also important.

Can GRO work in a medium-sized room?

The manufacturer recommends rooms of up to approximately 60 m², with at least 60 cm clearance behind the speakers.

Can the finish be customised?

Yes. Automotive paint colours are available on request, with the precise options and pricing confirmed before ordering.
