Description
Audio Hungary QUALITON 300B Integrated Amplifier
300B Triode Amplification. 2 × 25 Watts. Automatic Bias. Precision Relay-Controlled Volume. Handcrafted Hungarian Engineering.
The Audio Hungary QUALITON 300B Integrated Amplifier represents a sophisticated approach to high-end vacuum tube amplification, combining the celebrated 300B directly heated triode with precision transformer engineering, innovative tube protection systems and advanced analogue volume control.
Delivering 25 watts per channel into compatible 4-ohm or 8-ohm loudspeakers, the Qualiton 300B is designed to provide a balanced musical presentation with excellent control, low noise and wide electrical bandwidth.
Unlike many traditional 300B amplifier designs, the Qualiton 300B incorporates a modern Automatic Bias System, individually regulated filament supplies, a 100-step relay-controlled attenuator and sophisticated microprocessor-based operation.
Five analogue inputs, including a balanced stereo connection, and dedicated power and subwoofer outputs make this premium integrated amplifier a versatile foundation for a carefully assembled high-fidelity system.
The 300B Triode Reimagined

Powered by Legendary 300B Vacuum Tubes
The 300B is one of the most recognised vacuum tubes in the history of audio amplification.
Originally developed by Western Electric during the 1930s, the 300B became a reference point for specialist audio designers because of its directly heated triode construction and electrical characteristics.
The QUALITON 300B employs four 300B EH output tubes in a stereo amplifier designed to deliver 2 × 25 watts.
Qualiton’s stated goal was not to emphasise exaggerated tube colouration, but to develop a smooth, balanced amplifier capable of accurate reproduction throughout the audible frequency range.
Custom-Wound Toroidal Output Transformers
Output transformer engineering is central to the QUALITON 300B design.
The manufacturer develops and produces its own output transformers using large-cross-section, high-permeability toroidal magnetic cores.
These are manufactured using a specialised multilayer, sectional winding arrangement intended to support excellent frequency response and consistent electrical performance.
The transformer assemblies are shielded in metal enclosures and potted with epoxy compound to reduce mechanical vibration.
In a vacuum tube amplifier, the output transformer provides the electrical interface between the tube output stage and the connected loudspeaker.

Custom Power Transformer with Double Shielding
The amplifier uses a specially designed power transformer manufactured in Qualiton’s own transformer workshop.
Its toroidal core and carefully selected winding characteristics are engineered to provide the electrical conditions required by the demanding vacuum tube circuitry.
The power transformer incorporates double electromagnetic shielding and epoxy potting to help minimise unwanted magnetic interference and mechanical vibration.
This construction supports Qualiton’s objective of reducing mains-related noise within the audio circuitry.
Advanced Automatic Bias System
The QUALITON 300B incorporates the manufacturer’s latest-generation Automatic Bias System.
This electronic circuit continuously monitors the operating conditions of the output valves and adjusts their bias voltages accordingly.
It also helps equalise the quiescent currents of the output tubes, supporting balanced operating conditions and reducing the risk of transformer core saturation.
For normal operation with the supplied approved tube configuration, the system eliminates the need for routine manual bias adjustment.
Its integrated soft-start management also helps control the electrical conditions during amplifier start-up.

Individual 300B Filament Soft-Start Protection
One of the most significant technical features of this amplifier is its dedicated Filament Soft-Start System.
When a 300B tube is cold, the initial current through its heating filament can be substantially higher than during normal operation.
Qualiton states that the transient current of a cold 300B filament can exceed eight times its nominal heating current.
To help protect the expensive 300B tubes, each output tube filament receives power from its own stabilised DC supply.
The soft-start circuit limits filament inrush current during initial power-up, with the manufacturer’s stated objective of keeping it below 2A.
This is a thoughtful engineering feature intended to support long-term tube reliability.
Optimised Low-Noise Internal Architecture
Qualiton devoted particular attention to the physical arrangement of the amplifier’s internal electronic sections.
Sensitive audio circuitry is positioned to reduce exposure to electromagnetic interference from power supply components.
High-quality printed circuit boards and modular construction are employed to improve mechanical organisation and maintain consistent assembly standards.
The small-signal stages use carefully selected 12AX7 and 12AT7 tubes, supported by DC-stabilised filament supplies.
This architecture reflects the manufacturer’s emphasis on low noise, stable operating points and wide-bandwidth audio performance.

Precision Analogue Control

Five Analogue Inputs with Precision Relay Switching
The QUALITON 300B provides four unbalanced stereo inputs and one balanced stereo input.
These connections accommodate compatible DACs, network streamers, CD players and external phono preamplifiers.
Source selection is controlled by precision Japanese miniature relays with gold-overlaid silver electrical contacts.
A microprocessor manages input switching, while the front-panel Status Display identifies the selected source.
The amplifier is designed as an analogue integrated amplifier. No internal DAC or phono stage is specified.
100-Step Relay-Controlled Volume Attenuator
The Qualiton 300B uses a sophisticated 100-step stereo attenuator, rather than a conventional motorised potentiometer.
The system incorporates 25 microprocessor-controlled signal relays and 48 precision metal-film resistors.
Its custom-designed attenuation characteristics permit fine volume adjustment across the operating range.
At volume position zero, the output is muted.
The relay arrangement is designed for accurate stereo channel tracking and repeatable volume settings.
This is an important distinction between the Qualiton 300B and other Qualiton integrated amplifiers using ALPS potentiometers.

Multifunction Front-Panel Control
The distinctive rotary control provides several functions within a single carefully engineered interface.
It can adjust listening volume, select analogue inputs and manage standby operation.
This arrangement contributes to the amplifier’s clean appearance, reducing the need for multiple front-panel controls.
Combined with the digital Status Display, it provides practical access to the amplifier’s operating functions.
Multifunction Aluminium Remote Control
The supplied remote control is constructed with a black anodised aluminium finish.
It provides volume adjustment, mute, standby operation, input selection and Status Display brightness control.
The POWER button selects inputs while the amplifier is operating, and a long press returns the unit to standby mode.
The display brightness menu is accessed using a long press of the MUTE button.
Three preset brightness levels are available.

Adjustable Status Display
The amplifier’s front-panel Status Display is positioned behind scratch-resistant smoked plexiglass.
Its upper section normally indicates the current volume setting.
During user interaction, the display becomes brighter before returning to the selected lower brightness level.
Three brightness presets allow the display to be adapted to different room lighting conditions.
A separate red indicator identifies standby status.
Distinctive Industrial Design and Safety
Minimalist High-End Aesthetics
Qualiton combines modern industrial design with the unmistakable character of exposed vacuum tubes.
The chassis uses restrained lines, precisely executed mechanical details and a distinctive 45-degree folded edge.
A stainless steel logo badge, custom rotary control and elegant tube layout contribute to the amplifier’s visual identity.
The overall design aims to integrate naturally into a serious high-fidelity system rather than relying on excessive decoration.

Protective Tube Cover and Speaker Switching
The amplifier includes a protective tube cover designed to reduce the risk of accidental contact with hot valves and protect them from mechanical damage.
The tube sockets also incorporate mechanical features intended to reduce the risk of incorrect output-tube installation.
Qualiton uses a controlled power-on and power-off sequence to manage loudspeaker connection.
The loudspeakers are connected after the appropriate start-up interval, and the circuit disconnects them during shutdown or when a loss of mains power is detected.
These features support safer and more convenient everyday operation.
Premium Components and Mains Filtering
Audio Hungary specifies a carefully selected range of electronic components for the QUALITON 300B.
These include tested and selected vacuum tubes, gold-plated ceramic tube sockets, gold-plated audio terminals and film capacitors throughout the audio circuitry.
Selected ceramic composition resistors are used in important circuit positions, while the power supply incorporates long-life, high-temperature-rated capacitors.
Mains filtering is included on the primary side of the power transformer to help reduce unwanted incoming electrical interference.
All of these features contribute to the manufacturer’s emphasis on reliable, carefully controlled analogue amplifier construction.

High-End 300B Performance Without Excessive Colouration
Qualiton’s design philosophy for the 300B is based on controlled technical performance rather than deliberately exaggerated tonal warmth.
The manufacturer focuses on maintaining a wide frequency response, consistent distortion behaviour across the audio band and a high signal-to-noise ratio.
The published total harmonic distortion is below 0.5% across the power range from milliwatts to rated output, between 20Hz and 20kHz.
Frequency response is specified at two output levels: 5Hz–85kHz (-3dB) at 1W and 15Hz–70kHz (-3dB) at 25W.
These are manufacturer’s electrical specifications rather than independent measurements of the amplifier’s performance in a complete listening system.
Power Outputs and Subwoofer Integration
Beyond its five analogue inputs, the Qualiton 300B provides two unbalanced POWER OUT connections and one unbalanced SUB OUT connection, as specified by the manufacturer.
This allows suitable external components to be integrated into the system according to the output-routing instructions in the owner’s manual.
The dedicated subwoofer output provides an additional connection option for compatible active subwoofer systems.
Careful attention should be paid to input sensitivity, signal levels and volume control when connecting additional power amplification.
