Description
Reed Muse 3A High-End Turntable
The Reed Muse 3A is a high-end turntable designed around the principles of Bauhaus styling, combining minimalist visual architecture with advanced analogue engineering.
Its distinctive construction, birch plywood chassis, precision bearing system and selectable friction or belt drive make the Muse 3A an unusually flexible platform for serious vinyl playback.
The turntable is also designed to accommodate one or two tonearms with effective lengths from 9.5 to 12 inches, giving owners substantial freedom when building a reference analogue system.
Bauhaus-Inspired Design
The visual concept of the Muse 3A follows the principles of Bauhaus design, where function, proportion and simplicity work together as a unified whole.
The platter is slightly raised above the main body, while the support feet remain visually concealed. This creates the impression that the turntable is floating above its surface despite its substantial mass.
The result is a turntable with a clean architectural character that feels contemporary without relying on unnecessary decorative elements.
Birch Plywood Chassis
The entire body of the Reed Muse 3A, including the bottom structure, is manufactured from birch plywood.
This material was selected for its combination of rigidity, stability and naturally controlled resonance behavior.
In a turntable, unwanted chassis vibration can travel through the platter, bearing and tonearm structure before eventually reaching the stylus. A mechanically stable body therefore plays an important role in maintaining a controlled playback environment.
The Muse 3A is available in three finishes:
Carnelian Red, White and Black.
Precision Main Bearing
The Muse 3A uses the same fundamental main-bearing concept as the higher Muse 3C.
A reverse sliding thrust ball bearing supports the main axis. The bearing ball is manufactured from stainless steel, while lateral stability is provided by a durable low-noise sliding bearing.
This arrangement is designed to provide smooth platter rotation together with mechanical stability and long-term reliability.
Friction Drive or Belt Drive
One of the most distinctive engineering features of the Muse 3A is the ability to operate with either friction drive or belt drive.
The turntable can be converted between the two systems by changing the traction arrangement, installing the appropriate belt when required and selecting the corresponding operating mode.
This allows the listener to choose between two established turntable drive philosophies within the same platform.
The current Muse 3A specification uses a coreless DC motor as the drive source.
Controlled Mechanical Vibration
The drive system is engineered to minimize the transfer of mechanical vibration into the platter.
Reed uses carefully selected traction geometry so that the rotating components do not create simple repeating mechanical relationships with the platter drive surface.
This helps prevent resonant patterns from building up within the drive system and contributes to more stable platter rotation.
Quartz-Based PLL Speed Control
Platter speed is stabilized by a quartz-based phase-locked loop (PLL) control system.
The system continuously controls rotational speed and is designed to maintain highly accurate playback at both 33 1/3 and 45 rpm.
Reed specifies maximum average speed deviation at approximately ±0.05%.
Digital Control Display and Electronic Inclinometer
The Muse 3A includes a digital control system that displays platter speed together with important operating and protection information.
The display also incorporates an electronic inclinometer.
Correct turntable leveling is particularly important for bearing geometry, tonearm setup and stable cartridge tracking. The built-in level allows the user to confirm horizontal alignment without relying on a separate external spirit level.
One or Two Tonearm Configuration
The Reed Muse 3A can be configured for either one or two tonearms.
Tonearms can be mounted in center or off-center positions, depending on the chosen configuration.
The turntable supports tonearms with effective lengths ranging from 9.5 inches to 12 inches.
This makes the Muse 3A suitable for a wide variety of Reed tonearms as well as other compatible high-end tonearm designs.

Designed for Reed Tonearms
The Muse 3A provides an ideal platform for several tonearms within the Reed range.
For listeners looking for extensive on-the-fly adjustment and a highly sophisticated bearing architecture, the
Reed 3P Tonearm
is a particularly natural partner.
Other Reed tonearms can also be selected according to cartridge compliance, preferred arm length and system configuration.
Reed Muse 3A: Flexible Analogue Engineering
The Muse 3A combines precision mechanical engineering with unusually flexible system configuration.
Its ability to operate as either a friction-drive or belt-drive turntable, together with quartz-controlled speed regulation and support for one or two tonearms, makes it a highly adaptable analogue platform.
For listeners who want a turntable that combines distinctive European industrial design with serious engineering and broad tonearm compatibility, the Reed Muse 3A offers a compelling approach to high-end vinyl playback.
