Phasemation PP-500 MC Phono Pickup Cartridge

The Phasemation PP-500 is a high-performance moving-coil phono cartridge developed from the technology and design philosophy of Phasemation’s former flagship PP-2000.

Its aim is to bring much of the spatial precision, tonal freshness and low-frequency authority of the flagship design into a more accessible cartridge, while preserving the musical realism for which Phasemation cartridges are known.

The PP-500 combines a newly developed magnetic circuit, a refined vibration system, a pure boron cantilever, 6N oxygen-free copper coil wire and DLC-coated duralumin construction.

Flagship-Inspired Magnetic Circuit

The magnetic circuit of the Phasemation PP-500 incorporates technology developed for the PP-2000.

The design creates a highly efficient and uniform magnetic field, allowing the cartridge to increase output without making the vibration system unnecessarily heavy.

By controlling magnetic efficiency and moving mass, Phasemation aims to preserve fast transient response, precise image localization and fine low-level information from the record groove.

Optimized Vibration System

For the PP-500, Phasemation further refined the vibration system originally developed for the PP-300.

A machined duralumin base is combined with a vibration system tuned specifically for the PP-500, helping achieve a balance between tracking ability, dynamic expression and mechanical stability.

The result is designed to deliver a powerful yet natural presentation, with realistic scale and a convincing sense of musical energy.

Pure Boron Cantilever and 6N Copper Coil

The PP-500 inherits several premium materials developed and validated in Phasemation’s higher-end cartridges.

Its pure boron cantilever provides high rigidity and low moving mass, supporting accurate transmission of stylus movement to the generator system.

The magnet coil uses 6N oxygen-free copper wire, while the coil bobbin is manufactured from pure iron.

These materials are selected to preserve extremely fine musical information while maintaining speed, clarity and tonal density.

DLC-Coated Duralumin Body

Both the body and base are machined from duralumin and treated with DLC, Diamond Like Carbon, coating.

DLC combines high surface hardness with excellent vibration-control properties, helping create a mechanically stable environment for the cartridge generator.

The resulting structure is intended to reduce unwanted resonances while maintaining a clean, open and highly resolved presentation.

is an excellent partner for the Phasemation PP-500.

The PP-500 has a low internal impedance of 4Ω, while the T-600 is designed for moving-coil cartridges with output impedances from 1.5Ω to 40Ω.

This makes the PP-500 comfortably compatible with the operating range of the T-600, allowing the transformer’s passive 26dB step-up gain to be used before an MM phono input.
