SV-Audio FRIDA Receives HiFi Pig Editor’s Choice Award
Independent Review | HiFi Pig | Stuart Smith | January 22, 2025
SV-Audio FRIDA Receives HiFi Pig Editor’s Choice Award
Sometimes the most interesting loudspeakers are not the largest or the most technically complicated. They are the ones that manage to make their physical dimensions seem almost irrelevant once the music begins.
That is one of the central impressions emerging from Stuart Smith’s extensive review of the Storgaard & Vestskov FRIDA, published by HiFi Pig on January 22, 2025.
The Danish standmount loudspeaker impressed the reviewer with its exceptional construction, accurate tonal balance, controlled bass and unusually convincing spatial presentation. His enthusiasm ultimately resulted in HiFi Pig’s highest distinction, the Editor’s Choice award.
For listeners discovering SV-Audio, the review offers a useful introduction to both the FRIDA and the design philosophy of the Danish manufacturer.

A Danish Loudspeaker That Made an Impression
Stuart Smith first encountered Storgaard & Vestskov at the Warsaw Audio Video Show in 2024. The presentation caught his attention sufficiently for him to request a pair for a more extensive evaluation, something he explains is not his usual practice.
What stood out was not simply the appearance of the loudspeakers. The quality of the finish, the attention to presentation and the professionalism of the manufacturer suggested that this relatively new Danish company had invested considerable care in bringing its products to market.
During the review, Smith also spoke with company founder and loudspeaker designer Casper Vestskov Poulsen about the origins of SV-Audio and the thinking behind FRIDA.
The resulting article offers a combination of manufacturer background, practical examination and extended listening impressions rather than relying on a brief demonstration or show report.
Construction and Finishing That Stand Apart
The FRIDA’s appearance is an important part of the story. Its angular cabinet, sculpted aluminium front baffle and matching stand give it a distinct identity among more conventional rectangular standmount loudspeakers.
Smith was particularly impressed by the quality of the finish and the care apparent in the smallest construction details. The review pair featured a distinctive bamboo cabinet finish with Bentley Copper aluminium components, creating a combination of natural material and precision-machined metalwork.
The reviewer also examined the dedicated stands, packaging and connections, finding a level of manufacturing attention appropriate to the high-end category.
Importantly, his praise was not based solely on appearance. The construction quality created expectations that the loudspeaker would also need to meet during critical listening.

Bass Performance Beyond Expectations
One of the most revealing sections of the HiFi Pig review concerns bass reproduction. Given the FRIDA’s compact cabinet, Smith initially expected accurate imaging but a relatively limited low-frequency presentation.
His extended listening challenged that expectation. Using bass-heavy electronic music, particularly recordings by Todd Terry, he found that the FRIDA could reproduce bass lines with impressive definition, speed and rhythmic control for a loudspeaker of its size.
He did observe that the lowest frequencies became more physically apparent at moderate listening levels rather than very quiet late-night volumes. However, once the system reached a suitable level, the bass remained articulate and easy to follow without overwhelming the rest of the recording.
Smith also noted the absence of excessive bass overhang, an important quality for music built around precise rhythmic information.
These observations are especially useful for listeners who appreciate electronic music but do not have the space for large floorstanding loudspeakers.
Midrange Accuracy and the Character of Real Instruments
The review becomes particularly interesting when Smith moves from electronic music to rock and jazz recordings. He describes a loudspeaker that allows individual instruments to remain identifiable even during complex passages, without artificially pushing one part of the frequency spectrum forward.
The FRIDA’s presentation reminded him of a high-quality monitoring loudspeaker, with an ability to communicate recording detail and instrument placement while maintaining a balanced overall character.
Acoustic instruments receive special attention. Smith was impressed by the realistic tonal qualities of horns and percussion, as well as the way the loudspeakers revealed the character of the spaces in which recordings were made.
Rather than emphasising detail for effect, the FRIDA appeared to let the recording establish its own balance. That sense of neutrality became one of the strongest themes in his assessment.
Detailed Treble Without Listening Fatigue
High-frequency reproduction can be a challenging area for revealing loudspeakers, particularly with energetic rock and electronic recordings containing sharp percussion, cymbals and prominent upper-frequency effects.
Smith found that the FRIDA preserved this information without turning the presentation harsh or excessively bright. The loudspeakers remained revealing and articulate while avoiding an exaggerated treble balance.
He also found that demanding rock recordings remained organised and intelligible, reinforcing his impression that FRIDA could handle a wide range of musical genres rather than being suited only to carefully selected audiophile recordings.
A Soundstage Larger Than the Loudspeaker
Spatial presentation was another area in which FRIDA exceeded the reviewer’s initial expectations.
During jazz listening, Smith became aware of sounds appearing well beyond the physical location of the loudspeaker cabinets. The stereo presentation created a convincing impression of instruments occupying positions within a recorded acoustic space.
He also appreciated the way the FRIDA revealed the character of a recording venue, distinguishing a more open, hall-like environment from a conventional stage presentation.
The important point is that the soundstage did not appear artificially inflated. Smith described a credible, detailed spatial presentation that supported the musical performance instead of distracting from it.

What About the Limitations?
A useful independent review should explain not only what a product does well but also the conditions in which it performs best.
Although impressed by the FRIDA’s bass, Smith remained cautious about accepting the very deepest low-frequency extension claimed for the review sample without independent measurement.
He also pointed out that the rear bass-reflex port makes positioning relevant and that very large rooms could expose the natural limitations of a compact loudspeaker’s low-frequency output.
These considerations do not undermine his positive assessment. Instead, they provide practical guidance: the FRIDA should be chosen for a suitable room and positioned with care.
SV-Audio’s current product information recommends FRIDA for rooms up to approximately 30 square metres, with at least 30 cm clearance from the rear wall.
HiFi Pig Editor’s Choice: The Final Verdict
After listening to music across a broad range of genres, Stuart Smith concluded that FRIDA combines exceptional build quality with a remarkably accomplished and balanced musical presentation.
Its strengths included tight and controlled bass, excellent midrange transparency, detailed but comfortable treble and a realistic stereo image extending well beyond the speaker cabinets.
He also found the loudspeakers particularly convincing with acoustic instruments, appreciating their ability to communicate instrumental timbre and recording detail without imposing an obvious sonic character of their own.
The review concluded with the award of HiFi Pig’s Editor’s Choice distinction, recognising the FRIDA as a serious contender in the high-end standmount loudspeaker market.

Discover SV-Audio FRIDA at Chameleon Audio
At Chameleon Audio, we believe that choosing the right high-end loudspeaker requires a careful understanding of the listening room, associated amplification and individual musical preferences.
FRIDA offers an interesting solution for listeners who value musical coherence, accurate imaging and refined construction but prefer a compact loudspeaker system with a dedicated stand.
The current FRIDA specification features a two-way driver configuration with a 29 mm ring radiator tweeter and a 5-inch mid-woofer, with recommended amplifier power of 30–150 watts. These are the manufacturer’s current specifications and may differ from those of the earlier sample examined by HiFi Pig.
Chameleon Audio offers assistance with amplifier matching, room placement, finish selection and ordering arrangements for the SV-Audio collection.
