Description
HiFiMAN SUSVARA UNVEILED Reference Planar Magnetic Headphones – Price & Specifications
The HiFiMAN SUSVARA UNVEILED is the flagship expression of HIFIMAN’s planar magnetic technology, created for listeners who demand maximum transparency, spatial realism and low-level resolution from a reference headphone system.
Building on the legacy of the original SUSVARA, the UNVEILED version removes the conventional rear grille, introduces a metallic silver conductor layer and combines HIFIMAN’s advanced Stealth Magnet architecture with an ultra-light planar diaphragm.

Unveiled Open-Driver Architecture
The defining feature of the SUSVARA UNVEILED is its completely open rear-driver architecture.
A conventional protective grille can reflect and refract sound waves back toward the diaphragm. HIFIMAN’s Unveiled concept removes this structure, reducing acoustic interference behind the driver.
The goal is a more direct acoustic path, improved transparency and an even greater sense of air around instruments and voices.
Metallic Silver Conductor Layer
A major engineering change in the SUSVARA UNVEILED is the use of a metallic silver conductor layer.
Silver offers extremely high electrical conductivity, allowing HIFIMAN to increase driver sensitivity while preserving the ultra-low moving mass required for a reference planar magnetic transducer.
This helps reveal extremely subtle information within recordings and contributes to the headphone’s remarkable sense of openness and micro-dynamic detail.

Advanced Stealth Magnet System
The headphone incorporates HIFIMAN’s Stealth Magnet technology with an asymmetrical double-sided magnetic circuit.
The magnet geometry is shaped to reduce obstruction and turbulence around the diaphragm while maintaining precise magnetic control.
This helps lower distortion and allows sound waves to pass through the magnetic structure with minimal interference, contributing to exceptional image focus and transparency.

Reference-Level Spatial Realism
The completely open driver structure allows the planar diaphragm to operate with exceptionally little acoustic restriction.
The result is an expansive soundstage with precise depth, layering and instrument placement.
Instead of exaggerating width, the SUSVARA UNVEILED focuses on natural scale and highly accurate spatial relationships, helping recordings feel coherent and three-dimensional.
6Hz–75kHz Frequency Response
The official frequency response extends from 6Hz to 75kHz, reflecting the extreme bandwidth of the planar magnetic driver.
Deep bass reproduction combines speed and control with exceptional texture, while the midrange remains open and highly natural.
High-frequency extension contributes air, ambience and micro-detail without losing the cohesive character expected from a flagship headphone.
45Ω Impedance and 86dB Sensitivity
The SUSVARA UNVEILED has a nominal impedance of 45Ω and a sensitivity of 86dB.
This makes it easier to drive than the original SUSVARA, which was specified at 60Ω and 83dB, but it remains a demanding reference headphone.
A powerful, high-quality headphone amplifier is strongly recommended to achieve the full dynamic range, bass authority and spatial control available from the driver.

430g Flagship Construction
Despite its large planar drivers and premium metal construction, the headphone weighs approximately 430g, excluding the Magnetic Veils and cable.
The suspension-style headband distributes pressure over a broad area, while the large ear pads provide generous space around the ears.
HIFIMAN also states that each pair undergoes manual assembly, surface treatment and multiple quality inspections as part of the manufacturing process.
Magnetic Veils for Protection
The Unveiled architecture leaves the rear of the planar driver significantly more exposed than a conventional headphone.
For this reason, HIFIMAN includes a pair of Magnetic Veils, removable protective covers designed to be installed when the headphone is stored or not in use.
For listening, the headphone is designed to operate with the rear driver fully open.
Balanced and Single-Ended Cables Included
The package includes two full-size headphone cables:
- 3m cable with 4-pin XLR termination
- 3m cable with 6.35mm termination
This allows direct connection to both balanced and conventional high-end headphone amplifiers.

SUSVARA UNVEILED vs Original SUSVARA
The original SUSVARA established itself as one of HIFIMAN’s most ambitious planar magnetic headphones, but it was also famously demanding to drive.
The SUSVARA UNVEILED reduces impedance from 60Ω to 45Ω and increases sensitivity from 83dB to 86dB, making it somewhat more amplifier-friendly.
The larger difference, however, is acoustic. The fully open Unveiled structure removes the conventional rear grille, while the new silver conductor layer and updated magnetic system aim for even greater transparency and spatial realism.
Who Is the SUSVARA UNVEILED For?
This is a reference headphone intended for experienced listeners building a no-compromise headphone system around a top-class DAC and powerful amplifier.
It is especially suited to listeners who prioritise tonal realism, image depth, micro-dynamic detail and the ability to hear subtle changes in recording technique and system electronics.
Because of its exposed-driver design and extreme resolving ability, both careful handling and careful system matching are strongly recommended.
SUSVARA UNVEILED FAQ
What is the impedance of the SUSVARA UNVEILED?
The official impedance is 45Ω.
What is the sensitivity?
The official sensitivity is 86dB.
What is the frequency response?
The official specified frequency response is 6Hz – 75kHz.
How much does the SUSVARA UNVEILED weigh?
The headphone weighs approximately 430g, excluding the Magnetic Veils and headphone cable.
What does Unveiled mean?
Unveiled refers to HIFIMAN’s fully open rear-driver architecture, which removes the conventional grille behind the planar diaphragm in order to reduce acoustic reflections and refractions.
What are the Magnetic Veils?
The Magnetic Veils are removable protective covers supplied with the headphone to protect the exposed planar drivers when the headphone is not being used.
Does the SUSVARA UNVEILED need a powerful amplifier?
Yes. Although it is more efficient than the original SUSVARA, its 86dB sensitivity means that a powerful, high-quality headphone amplifier is strongly recommended.
