Audio Solutions Vantage S Floor Standing Speaker

Flagship line of all Audio Solutions products. It naturally evolved from Vantage Classic speakers. The difference takes place not only in outer looks with completely fresh lines and outlines, but also manufacturing materials, technique and overall evolution in designing such complicated loudspeakers as a system of many components working in perfect harmony.

Designed to be much more rigid construction compared to all previous models Audio Solutions had produced. SBP plywood is used (Siberian Birch Plywood) for internal labyrinth structure as well as for sidewalls and curved top. Siberian Birch grows slower than simple birch, thus making it much denser and tighter. Whole structure is modeled with best software available for resonance free surfaces. Actually properties of our cabinet from SBP plywood results in structure which properties are better than aluminum. Due to many bent surfaces, plywood has left some internal stress which damps any resonances with ease. This technique of leaving some stress in materials was used by Audio Solutions from the very beginning. Step by step this technique was developed to what we manufacture today – 18 layers sandwich of thin rectangular orientated wood sheets along with some HDF in critical layers glued together with three types of glue differing in hardness when cured.

Features

Vantage S (small) is smallest floorstander from whole collection. Speaker front edge reaches only 104cm height giving impression of really small speaker which later increases upwards and reaches 121cm height at back edge. Despite being really small and looking even smaller they do give some serious punch. We managed to push them to 112 dBC level at listening point 3m away from speakers in 55sq m room. And this was not achieved with technical sine wave but with music having some punchy tunes. Have to admit, speaker looking like most of middle sized floorstanders Vantage S not only plays music extremely natural but also plays it full scale and with full dynamic range.

Designed around fresh 5” wideband midrange driver and supported by customized beryllium tweeter. Accompanied by down firing aluminum cone 8” subwoofer and two front firing 5.5” paper woofers. The company of five drivers per speaker makes Vantage Anniversary small but mighty.

As a standard in Audio Solutions products mini horn is introduced here to enhance tweeter performance by lowering distortions and raising efficiency in critical region.

Cabinet decorated with highly durable top coat made from crushed stone and polyurethane lacquer gives speaker durability and effect of matte surface with glittering particles. Very unique and stylish accent which give looks of broken stone piece.

Never used before top-grade 3D vinyl is used to decorate back and cut-out of sidewall. Much concern was said about durability of such material during design phase. But damage tests proved that this material is actually tougher than any veneer, leather, even paints. We feel very confident about our decision to use such materials in our products. New vinyl textures gives customer completely new view to speaker and for us – designers it opens new horizons to work with.

Adjustable Crossover

Vantage anniversary speakers are equipped with adjustable crossover allowing You to make level corrections depending on Your listening taste or simply to tame a room. Level corrections are limited to 2.5dB window preventing from tonal disbalance but making big impact if one needs to balance speakers>audio gear>room combo. Whole network is based only on extremely low inductance resistors meaning that only sound level will change when knob is turned.

Mini-Horn

Audio Solutions speakers are equipped with Mini Horn loading, a special treatment for soft dome tweeters. Soft dome tweeters are known to have high distortions when driven loud. Distortions rise exponentially because the center part of the dome stops moving at certain levels and frequencies, thus flexes uncontrollably due to the soft dome nature.

Some manufacturers use an ark over the tweeter’s dome with dampening material touching the center to reduce this unwanted flex. However, this system is not linear at different listening levels. The fixed force exerted by the dampening material does not change with the tweeter’s excursion.

Others use stiffening materials like titanium bracing glued to the dome. This solution is better but not without flaws. It stiffens the structure but adds mass, increasing inertia and affecting impulse characteristics and sensitivity. Additionally, it is expensive to manufacture with low tolerances to ensure consistent electrical and acoustical parameters between samples.

Our Mini Horn, on the other hand, is more efficient to manufacture and maintain low tolerances. Mini-Horn is based on acoustical dampening, similar to usual horns. We carefully measure the frequencies at which the tweeter starts to flex and emit distortions. The Mini Horn is designed to dampen those frequencies, providing proportional dampening to the tweeter’s movement.

The louder it plays, the more dampening it receives from its own emitted sound. This is described as acoustical impedance and is highly dependent on the Mini Horn’s shape. Additionally, the Mini Horn increases sensitivity because of its horn-like structure, rather than reducing it by restricting movement like previous solutions.
